Almost everything in the room you are sitting in passed through a mine. The copper in the wires behind the walls. The aluminum in the laptop's case. The lithium and cobalt in its battery. The rare earths in its speakers and its motor. The iron in the steel of the building's frame. The silica in its glass. Modern industrial life is materially possible because somewhere — usually somewhere remote, often somewhere most of the people who depend on it have never seen — a mine extracts these materials from the ground at scale. Mining is the field that does this work. The pull at the field level is Spread: extending the materials needed by industry and infrastructure to the places that consume them, in the volumes they need.

Resolution sits underneath Spread as the daily texture. Mining happens in a hostile environment. The rock is heavier than the equipment was designed for, or harder, or wetter, or more fractured than the survey predicted. Equipment breaks. Water inflows shift. Ventilation systems reach their limits. The shaft develops a problem the geologists didn't see coming. Most of a mining engineer's day is solving these problems — adjusting the plan to the ground that is actually there, not the ground the model said was there. The work has the same texture as field engineering anywhere: a problem arrives, and the response has to be both fast enough to keep the operation running and rigorous enough not to make the problem worse.
