Roles 6Reads like Tiny margins, obsessively measured

Sport, as a field of work, is built around one stubborn question: can a body do more next month than it can today? Run faster, jump higher, last longer, recover quicker, hold its shape under pressure that would have broken it a year ago. Everything in the professional side of sport — the coaching, the conditioning, the analysis, the rehabilitation, and the athlete's own daily grind — points at moving a human being from their current capacity toward a greater one. That is why the structural pull at the field level is Development (Stagnant → Growing). Sport is the most literal and most measurable version of growth there is: the gap between what someone can do now and what they could do is timed, weighed, and recorded, and the entire industry is organised around closing it.

Development never works alone here, and a 17-year-old should see the company it keeps, because the company is where most of the actual jobs are. Bodies break, so Care (Suffering → Relief) runs right beside the growth — a large part of the field is keeping athletes intact and getting injured ones back onto the pitch. You cannot improve what you cannot see, so Revelation (Hidden → Revealed) sits underneath the modern game in the form of data and video analysis that exposes the patterns a coach's eye misses in real time. When something in the system stops working — a technique, a tactic, a training load that is doing more harm than good — the work becomes Resolution. And on competition day, the athlete's growth turns outward into Expression, the live, embodied performance everyone in the stands actually came to see. The field is genuinely multi-gradient, which is why it has room for the person who lives for the roar of the crowd and the person who would rather spend the afternoon inside a spreadsheet of sprint distances.
