The parallel non-vet route is real and common: a degree in aquaculture, marine biology or fish biology plus a fish health master's, working as a fish health biologist or manager, which covers much of the same work short of the acts reserved to veterinary surgeons. Both routes need time on sites; the industry does not take health advice from people who have never handled the fish.
