Almost everything you have touched today moved through a logistics network to reach you. The phone in your pocket, the food in your kitchen, the clothes on your body, the components in the chair you're sitting in — each of them was sourced, consolidated, transported, stored, picked, packed, and delivered through a system of decisions made by people most consumers will never meet. The system works so well most of the time that the consumer experience is invisibility — until something disrupts it, at which point the entire infrastructure of modern life becomes briefly visible and the cost of its failure becomes clear.

Logistics is the discipline that makes this work. The pull is Organization — bringing order to a flow of goods that, without active management, would be chaos. Inventory must be in the right place at the right time. Demand must be forecast and matched to supply. Carriers must be selected, contracts negotiated, routes planned. Customs must be cleared. Returns must be processed. Damaged shipments must be claimed against. Multiply each of these decisions across thousands of SKUs, hundreds of suppliers, dozens of carriers, and dozens of fulfillment nodes, and the scale of the daily organizational work becomes visible.
